New Project: Illinois College Baseball and Softball Fields
O'Shea Builders has started construction on a renovation project at Joe Brooks Baseball Field and Jessica Kamp Softball Field at Illinois College in Jacksonville.
The project involves the modernization of the existing baseball and softball fields. The changes that will be made are designed to improve the experience for both the players and spectators.
As part of the project, the traditional dirt and grass baseball field will be converted to synthetic turf, from the edge of the infield and outfield line to the dugouts and backstop. An underdrain system will make the fields more weather-friendly and allow players to get back on the field sooner following a rain event.
In addition, all of the amenities with be replaced on both fields – batting cages, dugouts, bullpens and scoreboards. A pressbox, complete with restrooms, will be added at each field.
On July 2, Illinois College President Barbara A. Farley, Athletic Director Mike Snyder, Head Coaches Meghan Roman and Jay Eckhouse, as well as members of the IC staff, faculty and Board of Trustees gathered along with other members of the Jacksonville community to mark the occasion.
The project is expected to be completed in the Fall.
