MY O’SHEA EXPERIENCE

I received the true “O’Shea experience” working as a marketing/business development intern, and it’s an experience that I looked forward to every day this summer. Before I started, I didn’t really know what to expect because this was my first internship with a professional company. However, after working here, I was surprised by what I discovered. What I found was a blend of fun, accountability, and self-improvement make up the unique culture at O’Shea Builders, and I’m so fortunate to have been a part of the team.

Fun – While this is an office environment, I found O’Shea to be relaxed and friendly not only in my work surroundings but also with every single employee. Even if I didn’t directly work with another employee, I was always greeted with smiles and conversation, like Lori Owens at the front desk, Nate Rohr in passing, and the colorful Champaign team I met. In addition, I really enjoyed all the extra amenities O’Shea offers, like the fitness center, the sports arena (where I played basketball often), and a hair salon. This is truly a unique place, and it speaks volumes about why O’Shea has so many loyal employees.

Self-improvement – Something that I took note of early on is O’Shea’s constant drive for self-improvement. They offer a variety of technical and leadership training sessions for everyone. Outside of formal training sessions, I also noticed every discussion or meeting among employees ended with this question: “How can we make this better?” This concept is such an integral part of O’Shea’s culture that they have it as one of their core values.

Accountability – During my time at O’Shea, I learned a lot of technical skills that I’ve never really worked on before. Part of those skills included editing/managing a website, stretching my creativity skills through graphic design work, tightening up my writing skills by drafting articles for the newsletter, and learning the logistics of event planning. These are just a few of the many skills I’ve picked up, and I hope to use in a future job or school.

Overall, my experience at O’Shea was valuable and enjoyable, and I’m very grateful for the internship opportunity. First, I would like to thank Mike O’Shea for allowing me to spend the summer here. Secondly, I want to thank Bridget, Tess, Josh, Brittany, and Ellie for teaching me so much and making my time here so truly memorable
