Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging at O’Shea

Encouraging diversity and inclusion in the trades

At O’Shea Builders, we believe our job sites should reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.

Because of this, we want to elevate opportunities for all. That means working to address barriers such as the expense of training and education, bias, and lack of career support to reverse the shortage of minority representation.

We’ve seen firsthand that a diverse workforce brings a wider range of skills and perspectives, leading to greater problem-solving and innovation.

The Minority Trades Network is a one-of-a-kind initiative created by O'Shea Builders and Solid Ground Solutions that connects members of the minority community with rewarding career opportunities in the construction industry.

Since the program started in 2020, 44 people have graduated from the program – 23 have entered a union trade. Learn more about the Minority Trades Network here

Mentor-Protégé Program

Through O’Shea Builders’ Mentor-Protégé program, the O’Shea team works alongside owners of minority-owned, construction-related businesses to help them position their businesses for success.

Our Mentor-Protégé program began in 2019, when O’Shea partnered with William Bishop IV, owner of Solid Ground Solutions (SGS), a minority-owned general contracting, demolition and construction cleaning company.

Under the Mentor-Protégé program, William has been able to grow Solid Ground Solutions and start another company, Solid Concrete Solutions, enabling him to employ a larger minority workforce. Read more about William’s story and our program here.

Inclusion Week at O’Shea

In our efforts to build awareness of the need to improve diversity and inclusion in the construction industry, O’Shea hosted a 3-day event that covered the topics of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging. Thanks to the help of a few special guests, the O’Shea team had a great open dialogue and dove deeper into these important topics. As an organization our goal is to create spaces for human flourishing for all!
