Denny Moore has Left the 'Bulldozer'
O’Shea’s resident operator, Denny Moore, has officially left his ‘bulldozer’ to retire. O’Shea Team News sat down with Denny and Mike O’Shea to talk about a few career highlights.
When did you start working at O’Shea?
Denny: I started working for O’Shea in June 2008.
What has it been like to work at O’Shea for so many years?
Denny: As an operator, it’s been enjoyable and fun to work on a variety of jobs over the years. It’s been a true blessing for my family and me, and I’m grateful I finished my career with an outstanding company.
Mike: To piggyback on Denny’s comments, he has been a joy to have at O’Shea. When we purchased the assets of KLS and hired Kurt Siciliano, Denny also came to O’Shea and was one of our first operating engineers. During this time, we had much less equipment, and it wasn’t the quality that we have today. Nonetheless, Denny and Kurt wore several hats to keep equipment moving around and getting the best out of what we had. By building on that foundation, we have put together a great team and a very nice fleet of equipment.
Can you tell us a little about your job history?
Denny: There are too many jobs and wonderful stories to tell, but I’ll say this. I’ve worked for several superintendents and co-workers on a variety of projects, and I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed every single minute of my career at O’Shea.
What was your favorite project?
Denny: My favorite project was the Springfield Clinic Main Campus project on South Sixth Street in Springfield (pictured below) because this was my first job working under the O’Shea name as an official team member.
Do you any favorite memories?
Denny: My most memorable times on the jobs are the ones I helped start and finish because I can drive by those sites and say to my wife that I started and finished that project with pride.
What will you miss the most about O’Shea? And what will you be doing with your free time?
Denny: The thing I’ll miss the most about O’Shea is getting up for work. Every day I knew I had nice equipment to operate, and things would run smoothly because I knew my team and I could get things done. During my free time, I plan to build our house and spend more time with my wife of 46 years, along with our three children and five grandchildren. Of course, I can’t forget my mistress who I plan to hang out with a lot; she’s my second love, and her name is Harley Davidson.
Mike: Since Denny has shared a few favorite highlights, I’d like to share a couple of my own. First, Denny is one of the most skilled operators I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. Even through some challenging circumstances, he continues to see the bright side of things, and I will miss his easy going personality and his appreciation for O’Shea and life.
