O’Shea Builders was selected by Sangamon County to build a new transportation center called “The Hub.” This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a midpoint destination for Amtrak passengers traveling between Chicago and St. Louis and includes the following components:
• County Square – Includes a 53,000-square-foot, four-story glass and steel civil lobby and gathering area used for public events and provides a unique experience for local patrons and visitors.
• Parking Structure – Includes a 225,000-square-foot, four-story structure attached directly to the County Square facility with a capacity to hold 535 vehicles.
• Amtrak Ticketing and Waiting Station – Two-story structure with high-end finishes and a unique floating stair element.
• Pedestrian Bridge Elements – These large clear-span bridge elements will span over the railway tracks with climate-controlled comfort and visibility to the tracks below while connecting to the new east improvements constructed for the Sangamon Mass Transit District.
• Railway Platforms – Platforms will be constructed adjacent to the railways with large canopies to protect travelers from the elements.
