Some teachers in the Decatur Public School District were surprised when they showed up to their classrooms in August to prepare for the new school year. 

After 12 years at O’Shea, Kurt Siciliano will start a new adventure in eastern Tennessee, where he plans to build his forever home with his family.

For 26 years, Steve Hopper has served as O’Shea’s “utility player,” working in a variety of roles, and it’s a one he’s officially retired from. 

After 13 years at O’Shea, Superinten­dent Mike Thomas is retiring.

The global health pandemic caused by the spread of coronavirus has certainly changed social behaviors, keeping family and friends apart (among many other practices). It’s also altered the construction industry, adding new layers to health and safety measures. 

O’Shea Team News interviewed Omar Sandoval, a senior at Centennial High School in Champaign, about job shadowing Superintendent Mike Thomas.

O’Shea recently participated in Sangamon-Menard Schools’ Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3) program during fall 2019. The MC3 is a nationally recognized apprenticeship-readiness training curriculum that offers hands-on-learning and a pathway toward a construction career apprenticeship.

Randle earned his Bachelor’s degree in engineering - construction management from Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville.

Schmidt comes to O’Shea from Memorial Health System, where he worked for 12 years, most recently as CEO of Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. During his career at Memorial, he was Manager of Information Technology Customer Support and served as Vice President of Facilities Management.

Beach started his career in construction as a union carpenter, moving to foreman, then superintendent for Stelle Construction, Associated Contractors and Clayco. He has worked on many notable higher education and healthcare projects such residence and dining halls at the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign, Heartland Community College’s Workforce Development Center, and Carle Spine Clinic. 

Powell graduated from UIS with a degree in business management. She has spent the past six years with Illinois Retina Center and the Central Illinois Retina Institute as a certified ophthalmic associate.

Hawkins graduated from Greenville College with a degree in organizational leadership. She comes to O’Shea after six years with Stetson Building Products as an operations manager for their Decatur location. She resides in Sidney, Ill.

Ritter comes to O’Shea Builders from Taylor Studios Inc. in Rantoul after eight years of serving as a project manager and three years overseeing the design & project management departments. She also worked for Bonham Construction in Mahomet as a project manager. 

Dooley recently earned his Bachelor’s degree in construction management from Bradley University. While in school he worked at Midwest Construction Professionals in Morton. 

Maybanks, a native to the Peoria area, received his Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from Bradley University. Maybanks joins O’Shea from River Construction where he served as a project manager for 12 of his 16 years there.
