The Man Behind O'Shea's Safety Program: John Kovalan

On Mother’s Day 2020, John Kovalan saw his parents for the first time in three months. And to his dismay, he wasn’t even able to give them a hug.

The global health pandemic caused by the spread of coronavirus has certainly changed social behaviors, keeping family and friends apart (among many other practices). It’s also altered the construction industry, adding new layers to health and safety measures.

O'Shea Announces New Hire

Schmidt comes to O’Shea from Memorial Health System, where he worked for 12 years, most recently as CEO of Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. During his career at Memorial, he was Manager of Information Technology Customer Support and served as Vice President of Facilities Management.

O'Shea Announces New Hire

Beach started his career in construction as a union carpenter, moving to foreman, then superintendent for Stelle Construction, Associated Contractors and Clayco. He has worked on many notable higher education and healthcare projects such residence and dining halls at the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign, Heartland Community College’s Workforce Development Center, and Carle Spine Clinic.

Hawkins graduated from Greenville College with a degree in organizational leadership. She comes to O’Shea after six years with Stetson Building Products as an operations manager for their Decatur location. She resides in Sidney, Ill.

Ritter comes to O’Shea Builders from Taylor Studios Inc. in Rantoul after eight years of serving as a project manager and three years overseeing the design & project management departments. She also worked for Bonham Construction in Mahomet as a project manager.
