Hiring 101

Josh Frye and Ellie Kasparie sat down to talk about resume and interview best practices. Here are a few tips and recommendations that Josh had to share…

For Resumes:

  • Consistency is key! Make sure your formatting and fonts are consistent. Check that words that are supposed to be bolded are bolded, and those that aren’t, are not.
  • Colors, graphics, or photos are most likely unnecessary, unless you are applying for a creative position such as graphic design or photography.
  • Show off your accomplishments! We want to know how you were able to achieve success at your last position. Tell us “how” you did something, not just “what”.
  • Double check your spelling. Spell check will not always tell you if you’re using the correct “to”. It’s always good to have a fresh set of eyes look over your resume for these type of mistakes.
  • Tailor your resume to the position you are applying for. Try to include similar key terms in your resume that were used in the job description. This will help your resume standout at companies that use artificial intelligence to scan resumes.

For Interviews:

  • Research the company. Go to their website, social media pages, or google them. Do your best to find out as much as you can about the organization.
  • Know the job description. Make sure you can answer questions about topics that are on the description.
  • Practice, Practice, Practice! Grab a mirror, a friend, parent, sibling, or even a furry friend and practice answering interview questions. This will help you be more confident when it comes time for the actual interview. You can find sample interview questions all over the internet.
  • Prepare questions for your interviewers. You want to make sure that the organization you are interviewing with is going to be the right fit for you! Pick a few things that important to you at an organization and ask about those.

We hope these tips help you win that next job! Of course, make sure to check out our careers page to see all of our open job postings.
