Catching Up with O'Shea's Interns

O'Shea welcomed four interns to our Springfield office this summer. O'Shea Team News interviewed them about their experiences and future plans.

Meagan Berberet, Marketing Intern

• My responsibilities included creating social media posts, managing the website, auditing resumes, managing Cardinal ticket giveaways, creating newsletter content, assisting with video shooting and job site photography, writing blog posts, creating project sheets, assisting with internal and external events, and organizing materials, swag, and apparel for giveaways.
• My biggest takeaway from the internship was working alongside Brittany and Ellie and learning about the ins and outs of the Brand department, along with learning the importance of organization, communication, and teamwork in the office.
• I plan to graduate from SIUE in Spring of 2024 and pursue a career in Marketing and Communications.

Paxton Franke, Intern at Goodwill and Wabash School District Projects

• My main responsibilities have been entering weekly work plans into excel and sending them out to our trade partners, creating and adjusting pull plans, and revamping the company’s Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan. Additional tasks included site safety walks, working with RFIs and submittals, along with making regular visits to my assigned job sites.
• My biggest takeaway has been working with Scott and the rest of the team to communicate and solve problems together. There is a lot of problem solving when it comes to a project, and it has been a great learning experience to see how specific issues get resolved.
• I have one year left of college until I graduate. Then, I hope to find a job that will eventually lead me to a project manager position

Tyler Johannes, Intern at Lanphier High School Project

• Some of my responsibilities have been to review submittals and RFIs, update the weekly work plan and constraint log, markup precast panel hole locations, and update the 186-manpower report.
• My biggest take away from the internship is the amount of information I have learned on the job site compared to being in a classroom. This internship has helped me understand how a project management team functions and has taught me a lot about the actual construction process, too.
• After I graduate from college, I plan on finding a job as a project engineer in the Springfield, Ill. area. My goal is to work my way up to becoming a project director.

Connor Kuchar, Intern at Springfield Clinic Lab Project

• My responsibilities included using excel to create/revise a checklist of incomplete activities, run job labor reports and send them to superintendents assigned to both jobs, organize OAC meeting agendas within the P drive for the lab and GI renovation jobs, and review and familiarize myself with drawings for the projects.
• The biggest thing I have taken away from this internship is the importance of communication and organization to achieve an efficient, clean, and safe job site. Also, creativity is a necessary trait to be able to problem solve and find solutions, which keeps everything moving forward on schedule.
• My future career plans and goals include graduating with a construction management degree and finding a good job after college.
