Born to Build with Scott Kinkade

It was a college class that helped Scott Kinkade uncover his future career path – which he probably knew all along.

“I went to school not knowing what I wanted to do,” says Scott, a project engineer for O’Shea. “There was a program at my college helping define what you wanted to do; they helped me come to the realization.”

“It’s obvious now when I look back,” he laughs.

Why so obvious?

Scott’s family has long been in the business of construction, starting with his great-grandfather who was a carpenter. Scott’s grandfather was a builder, as well as many of his cousins and extended family members.

“I remember going to job sites with my grandpa when I was growing up. He was the general contractor, so we’d walk around the whole site and he helped give guidance about the job,” Scott recalls.

For a time, Scott ran his own business, but eventually grew weary of the travel involved. He’d heard about O’Shea’s work in the Central Illinois community, so when he decided it was time for a change, “I knew O’Shea was the place for me,” he says.

“I liked that they were passionate about what they did. The company is very organized and has a system in place for everything they do,” he shares.

As project engineer, Scott now oversees O’Shea client projects from conception to completion. He typically manages several projects at once, processing bills, notifying change orders and communicating between O’Shea crew members, subcontractors and clients.

Scott has been at O’Shea since October 2018. He enjoys multi-tasking and the process of project management; one of his favorite projects has been Centennial High School in Champaign, IL.

“It was fast-paced with a lot going on,” he says.

Working for O’Shea has been an ideal fit for Scott – and he’s glad he followed the family business.

“I’ve always been naturally inclined toward construction,” he says. “The best part is taking a building project from concept to fruition. I love seeing the idea come to life.”
